FAQs

General Equipment Hire

What’s the difference between hiring and buying mobility equipment?

Hiring is a great option if you only need equipment temporarily, such as during recovery or when a relative is visiting. It avoids large upfront costs and includes delivery, setup and collection, so everything is taken care of.

How quickly can mobility equipment be delivered to my home?

We understand that needs can arise suddenly. Many items can be delivered quickly, often within 24–48 hours, depending on availability and your location.

Can I hire equipment for just a short period?

Yes. We offer flexible hire options, whether you need equipment for a few days, a few weeks, or a little longer.

What equipment is most commonly hired after a hospital discharge?

Families often hire hospital beds, wheelchairs, commodes, walking aids and supportive chairs to make recovery at home safer and more comfortable.

Can I hire equipment for a visiting relative?

Absolutely. Many customers hire equipment short-term to support a visiting family member and make their stay easier and safer.

What happens if my hired equipment stops working?

If anything isn’t working as it should, just get in touch with us. We’ll arrange help, repair or a replacement as quickly as possible.

Mobility Aids & Walking Equipment

What’s the difference between a walking frame and a rollator?

A walking frame is lifted as you move and offers extra stability. A rollator has wheels and brakes, making it easier to push and better suited for longer distances.

How do I choose the right walking frame for everyday use?

Think about where it will be used, how steady you feel on your feet, and whether wheels or brakes would make walking feel easier and more confident.

Wheelchairs & Scooters

How do I choose the right wheelchair size for comfort and safety?

The right wheelchair should feel supportive without being tight. Seat width, depth and weight capacity all matter, and we’re happy to help you choose.

Do mobility scooters work in the rain?

Mobility scooters can usually be used in light rain, but we recommend avoiding heavy rain or flooded areas to stay safe.

Can I take a mobility scooter or wheelchair on holiday?

Often yes, but it’s best to check with airlines, cruise companies or accommodation providers in advance, as rules can vary.

Knee Scooters & Recovery

What is a knee scooter and when should I use one?

A knee scooter supports your injured leg while you move using the other leg. It’s commonly used after foot or ankle surgery.

Can I hire a knee scooter instead of crutches?

Yes. Many people find knee scooters more comfortable than crutches, especially for longer use, as they reduce strain on the arms.

Hoists, Transfers & Seating

What’s the difference between a mobile hoist and a gantry hoist?

A mobile hoist can be moved around the room, while a gantry hoist is fixed in place and provides overhead support for lifting and transfers.

How do I choose the right rise and recline chair?

The right chair should offer good support, the correct seat height, and a smooth rise function that helps the user stand safely and comfortably.

When should I use a Sara Stedy for transfers?

A Sara Stedy is helpful when someone can take some weight through their legs but needs support to stand or move safely.

Beds & Pressure Care

What is a profiling bed and who is it suitable for?

A profiling bed adjusts electronically to support sitting, resting and repositioning. It’s ideal for people with reduced mobility or those recovering at home.

What type of pressure relief mattress should I choose?

This depends on how mobile the person is and their risk of pressure sores. Our team can guide you through the options.

Are hospital beds suitable for home recovery?

Yes. Hospital beds are commonly used in the home and can make recovery safer, more comfortable and easier for carers.

Bathroom & Toileting

What bathroom adaptations can be made quickly for safety?

Simple additions like commodes, raised toilet seats, shower stools and grab rails can make a big difference straight away.

How do I use a commode chair safely?

Make sure it’s placed on a stable surface, any brakes are applied, and the seat height feels comfortable before use.

Travel & Events

Do you deliver mobility equipment to hotels or airports?

Yes. We can deliver to hotels and serviced accommodation, making travel easier and less stressful. We do not deliver directly to airports, nor do we allow our equipment on aeroplanes.

Can I hire equipment for weddings, festivals, or events?

Yes. Short-term hire is available for special occasions to help ensure comfort and accessibility.

Safety, Cleaning & Maintenance

How do I clean and maintain hired mobility equipment?

Most equipment can be kept clean with a gentle wipe using mild detergent. We’ll provide guidance for each item when it’s delivered.

What daily safety checks should I do before using equipment?

Before use, check that brakes, wheels and moving parts are working properly, and contact us if anything doesn’t feel right.
